The Kyneton’s One Act Play Festival is 64 years old..  We have made ‘When I am 64’ the theme for this year.

Our Festival challenges companies to enter plays to incorporate a Beatles theme in their production for this year.

Sessions commence with a Gala Night Friday, with two Saturday sessions (afternoon and evening) and one Sunday session ending with an awards presentation.

Registration fee: $35.00
Running time: 20 to 45 minutes
Minimum number of players: 2

One Act Comedy
Registration fee: $35.00
Running time: 20 to 45 minutes
Minimum number of players: 2

Youth Play
Registration fee: $15.00
Minimum number of players: 2
Maximum age of players: 21

Short Play
Registration fee: $15:00
Running time: Up to 20 minutes
Format: Must not be a sketch
Minimum number of players: 2

Registration fee: $10.00
Running time: Less than 10 minutes
Format: Must not be poetry
Maximum number of players: 1

Step Three: Post us two printed copies of your script

  • Peter Kelly Memorial Award for the Best Original Play – $300 (drama, comedy or youth) and trophy 
  • Lynette Brown Memorial Award for Best Director, One Act Play – $50, Certificate  and  trophy
  • Best Actor – $50 and trophy
  • Best Actress – $50 and trophy
  • Best Supporting Actor – $25 and trophy
  • Best Supporting Actress – $25 and trophy
  • Best Costumes, Props and Settings – trophy
  • VDL Encouragement Award for young performer under 21 years in a Senior Play – $50 and certificate
  • Best Youth Play, Kyneton Theatre Company Award – $50 and trophy
  • Runner Up Youth Play, Lions Club – $30 and certificate

Terms and conditions

  • Royalties applicable to the performance are to be paid by the entrant.
  • Groups are required to supply appropriate properties, set, sound recordings and special effects as needed.
  • The stage lighting is basic, but through the dimmer board.
  • Any electrical appliances must have a current appliance test tag attached.
  • In accordance with the Firearms Act 1996 if your play requires the use of a gun of any description the name of the responsible person must be given at time of entry. Prior notice MUST be given in writing if you intend to shoot blanks.
  • Maximum set up time allowed shall be 10 minutes
  • Maximum striking time allowed shall be 5 minutes.
  • The Committee reserves the right to reject the script or parts thereof if deemed unsuitable for the Festival.
  • The expressed preference for the performance dates will be respected where possible but the Committee reserves the right to allot dates/times as dictated by the program.
  • Final programming and number of plays accepted will be determined by the Committee.
  • Should the winners of Bluestone trophies not be present at the presentations, the winning company’ must make arrangements to collect or pay for postage to receive their trophy.

The Adjudicator’s decisions are final.
