2009 One Act Plays Report
Last Year’s One Act Plays popular
Kyneton Katz performing as part of the Kyneton Theatre Company were victorious at the One Act Plays in September 2009 with their play ‘Bringing Up Odessa’ taking out the award for Best Play and Director Bette Sartore taking out the Lynette Brown Memorial Prize for Best Director. Fiona Agyeman was Best Supporting Actress as Odessa. Kyneton Katz was a combined group containing Kyneton members and past members of Craigieburn Cats. Kyneton U3A’s ‘The Poor Little Mill Girl’ won the Short Play Entry and it melodrama brought the hoped-for cheers, boos and hisses. The wonderful costumes, props and sets also won that prize. ‘They Come..’ acclaimed play by Tessa Thorpe and performed by Tessa and Johanna Longmuir also attracted awards with Tessa taking out the Victorian Drama League Encouragement Award for a young performer. Julie Wade of Mount Players was Best Actress with her role of Joyce in ‘The Fat Lady Sings in Little Grimley’. Other awards went to ‘Water Torture’ Gemco’s play with two of its players taking out both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.
