Mosaics - New Show for Ancient Art
10am - 4Pm Every day of the Festival

The work of many contemporary mosaic artists will be on show in a private garden at 60 Dettmanns Lane Kyneton for the duration of the Daffodil and Arts Festival, from the 1st to the 11th of September.
It will include two dimensional and sculptural work in a great variety of styles and techniques. Modern mosaic artists have a massive choice of materials at their fingertips including glass, mirror, ceramic tiles, pebbles and much more.
The exhibition will be held in the garden and studio of recent arrival to Kyneton, Geraldine Phelan, who has had previous exhibitions of mosaic works in Melbourne, Gippsland and on the Mornington Peninsula.
“Currently there is a resurgence of interest in mosaic as a form of artistic expression , being popular in public places, buildings, galleries etc. as well as for use in domestic and garden areas” Geraldine said.
“Community projects, like the beautiful tribute to the people effected by the recent bushfires, on the wall of Kyneton’s Town Hall is indicative of this and weaves together so many stories of those involved. Kathryn Portelli, who designed and co-ordinated this project, and will be exhibiting some of her new work in the exhibition along with many other local artists.
“The community mural showcased such a variety of ways to display in mosaic and some of those creative techniques will be evident in the sculptural work.”
The Bisazza tile company have sponsored prizes of two exquisite pieces of hand crafted Italian jewellery for the event, and these will be awarded on the last day to works chosen by visitors as the people’s choice. Prizes will also be awarded to work of both primary and secondary students.
The garden exhibition will be open between 10am and 4pm each day of the Daffodil and Arts Festival. Please contact Geraldine on 0409 695 944 for information.
